Hi guys, I had an accident where the steering got a push. Now the handlebar is pointing about 5 to10 degrees to the right side. The mechanic (who seems not to be really skilled) suggested to bend the handlebar by force which I refused since that is no solution at all. What is propably to be done is to loosen the screws of the upper and lower yoke as well as the steering stem cap. How then is the re-alignment done? Just at a rough estimate or are there specific guidelines? What else is to be observed? Any advise is most welcome!
Not a mechanic, but I think you're right. Everything gets loosened up and attempted to be put straight again. But - this only works if the components were jostled/moved by the accident, not if they were bent themselves. I seem to remember prior reading that if the accident was bad enough to significantly affect alignment, there's a reasonable chance the fork tubes themselves and/or additional parts are themselves bent - and realigning the installation would never be enough to set everything straight again.
